Jury of the Architectural Design I (2nd year)
The focus of the assignment for second year Architectural Design I students was on dealing with the most fundamental building program in architecture – the dwelling. That is the building type which is closest to every human being and it has been argued that our dwellings define us as people and as cultures. The housing as a building typology has existed in one form or another for centuries and a renewed focus on this type of dwelling has been emerging due to global increase of digital socialization as well as potential advantages with respect to sustainability. Dwelling in the Digital Age - students tried to find answer could that be the new moto for the contemporary Latvian dwelling and how digital lifestyle has changed our behaviour and communication?
Jury of the Architectural Design II (3rd year) / 2013/2014
The semester focus for third year Architectural Design II students was on investigating and dealing with the terra incognita of architecture and urban design: those unprecedented spaces that emerge as a result of contemporary urbanization; spaces that have evolved over and above the awareness of - and control by – architects and urban designers; spaces that fundamentally differ from the classical European city Riga originated from. Students developed an architecture project from the outside: subject to their own analysis and interpretation, students defined their own site and own building to reconstruct with their individual program.
