2025 Kuldiga Workshop

Our architecture students gathered in Kuldīga for a two-day workshop; “Outstanding Universal Values of World Heritage Sites: Uniqueness. Continuity. Local Features.”

The main focus was on Kuldīga’s UNESCO-listed roofscape — studying its materials, forms, and evolution, and exploring how to preserve and develop it responsibly. The workshop’s program included lectures by Jana Jākobsone, Dzintars Heinsbergs, and Sandra Vītoliņa, on-site explorations in Kuldīga, Ventspils, and Talsi, as well as independent assignments, and student presentations.

Through research and proposals, the students examined how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary architecture can meet in historic settings — balancing heritage values with today’s needs.

This trip is always a great experience of learning, exploring, and shaping visions for the future of our cultural heritage.
