From 24th till 28th of March 1st and 2nd year students from RISEBA Architecture department together with architecture design tutors Dina Suhanova and Didzis Jaunzems went on annual study tour to Barcelona, Spain. The study tours are organized each year and is part of the subject Study Practice. Before taking off, students are requested to prepare the research booklet as a guide that accompanies them in the study tour. Part of the Study Practice is also their presentations on the site where they introduce others with the research on specific topic or building.

From Feb 28th till Mar 2nd RISEBA FAD Architecture programme director Oskars Redbergs together with students took part in the international education fair "SKOLA 2014" in Ķīpsala exhibition hall. During the three exhibition days FAD students introduced all the interesents with the study programme, showing their architectural projects and models and explaining the education process and everyday life of the architecture student.

The semester focus for third year Architectural Design II students was on investigating and dealing with the terra incognita of architecture and urban design: those unprecedented spaces that emerge as a result of contemporary urbanization; spaces that have evolved over and above the awareness of - and control by – architects and urban designers; spaces that fundamentally differ from the classical European city Riga originated from. Students developed an architecture project from the outside: subject to their own analysis and interpretation, students defined their own site and own building to reconstruct with their individual program.

The focus of the assignment for second year Architectural Design I students was on dealing with the most fundamental building program in architecture – the dwelling. That is the building type which is closest to every human being and it has been argued that our dwellings define us as people and as cultures. The housing as a building typology has existed in one form or another for centuries and a renewed focus on this type of dwelling has been emerging due to global increase of digital socialization as well as potential advantages with respect to sustainability. Dwelling in the Digital Age - students tried to find answer could that be the new moto for the contemporary Latvian dwelling and how digital lifestyle has changed our behaviour and communication?

1st year students (BD I) in the final jury presented their projects of architectural parasites for the house on the corner of Dzirnavu and Jeruzalemes streets. Along with the studio leader Manten Devriendt and tutors Linda Krūmiņa, Andy Rauchut, the projects were reviewed by the guest jury - architect Kelly A. Nelson (DK), architect and researcher Geo Reisinger (DE) and Architecture programme director Oskars Redbergs.
