Jury of the Architectural Design I (2nd year)
The focus of the assignment for second year Architectural Design I students was on dealing with the most fundamental building program in architecture – the dwelling. That is the building type which is closest to every human being and it has been argued that our dwellings define us as people and as cultures. The housing as a building typology has existed in one form or another for centuries and a renewed focus on this type of dwelling has been emerging due to global increase of digital socialization as well as potential advantages with respect to sustainability. Dwelling in the Digital Age - students tried to find answer could that be the new moto for the contemporary Latvian dwelling and how digital lifestyle has changed our behaviour and communication?
The students' projects dealt specifically with multi-family housing in Pārdaugava, the territory near Zunda canal, offering varoius densities, divergent height and volumetric studies and masterplan solutions for the site. The guests, property developer Harijs Rozenšteins, architect Andris Rubenis and Architecture programme director Oskars Redbergs, alongside with AD I studio leader Kelly A. Nelson, tutors Didzis Jaunzems and Dina Suhanova were taking part in the projects' jury.
