DesignSmash RIGA on Sep 15 / 3d printing: the present or the future?

DesignSmash is a mix of design-hackathon, competition and party where teams of designers "smash-out" a working design prototype using 3D printers within a day, starting in the morning with an on-the-spot brief, and present the prototypes at a public event. DesignSmash previously has toured through London, Berlin, Utrecht, Milan (twice) and now comes to Riga. 

Event is organized by RISEBA University Faculty of Architecture and Design in cooperation with DesignSmash and MassPortal. MassPortal will come over with the bunch of 3d printers offering their expertise, software training, knowledge and technology. Teams of designers will design, model and get complete design prototype in one day.

Tuesday, 13th Sep
Pre-training for all the participants at MASS PORTAL where you will learn how to handle the 3D printing beast and discover the latest material development and 3D printing software (time will be announced).

Thursday, 15th Sep
09.30   BRIEFING / teams of 2-3 people are made and the competition brief is delivered
11.00   PRESENTATION I / teams present the design concept
12.00   LUNCH / designers continue to discuss the crit and design ideas
13.00   DESIGN MODELLING
17.00   SUBMISSION of the 3D model for printing
18.00   PREPARATION of the public presentation
20.00   PRESENTATION of the final design while it is printing
23.00   PRESENTATION of the prototypes / photography, gallery... party
