FAD Graduate Among Finalists of the Latvian Architecture Award 2025
The Project
Already during her Bachelor thesis defense, the State Examination Commission (members: Dr.arch. Linda Leitāne, Mg.arch. Ole Wiksen Wiig, Andris Kronbergs, Mg.arch. Gunta Grikmane, MATS, BArch., Rūdolfs Dainis Šmits, Mg.arch. Helvijs Savickis) recommended this diploma project for realization through construction.
Marta’s project, “Spatiality of the Border – Rehabilitation of the Latvian Eastern Frontier,” was elaborated by Marta under the supervision of FAD Tutor and Architect Liena Šiliņa, with the support of Helvijs Savickis, “Perifēriju centrs”, the Cultural Capital Foundation of Latvia, and RISEBA University.
The realization of the project became a collaborative process involving:
Jas Wolfert, Rudolf Bekic, Gints Linde, Juta Linde, Daniela Sokolova, Jānis Rapa, Holgers Folkmanis, Stanislavs Maļkevičs, Marta Ventere, as well as faculty students — Violeta Kokoreviča (2nd year) and Ralfs Edvards Ašaks (4th year) — and local residents.
Tutors Rudolf Bekic and Rudolfs Dainis Šmits supported the execution and provided valuable advice throughout.
The Award
The Latvian Architecture Award, established by the Latvian Association of Architects, is the highest national recognition in the field of architecture. It honors excellence not only in completed buildings but also in processes, research, and socially significant initiatives that shape Latvia’s built environment.
For a recent graduate to be nominated among the finalists is an exceptional achievement. This recognition demonstrates both Marta’s strong vision as a young architect and the vitality of the FAD academic community, where students, tutors, and professionals come together to support meaningful architectural work.
