Architectural Collaboration’s Monumental Victory

We are proud to share the news of a collaborative triumph in the architectural realm! Our distinguished tutors at the RISEBA University Faculty of Architecture and Design, from the landscape atelier ALPS Ainavu Darbnīca, participated in a team that achieved a monumental victory in the Riga Ropax Terminal architectural competition. This success was realized in collaboration with the globally renowned Zaha Hadid Architects and the esteemed Latvian firm Sarma Norde Architects

The competition’s first prize was awarded to Zaha Hadid Architects, a testament to the innovative design and strategic vision that will redefine the Riga waterfront. The project is a harmonious blend of local expertise and international architectural prowess, resulting in a design that respects Riga’s rich history while propelling it into a sustainable future.

The Riga Ropax Terminal is set to become a new passenger and ro-ro cargo terminal, repurposing an existing warehouse into a state-of-the-art facility. The design incorporates public terraces offering panoramic views of the Daugava River and Riga’s city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It will serve as a multi-modal transport hub, connecting ferry and cruise ship passengers with the city’s various transport networks.

Emphasizing environmental responsibility, the terminal integrates locally sourced materials and advanced design solutions to minimize energy demand and carbon emissions. The project also includes a new civic plaza and landscaped riverside walkway, enhancing Riga’s coastal panorama and establishing a landmark for sea travelers.
